Or would you like it to be?
The trick to doubling, tripling or simply increasing your revenue from holiday cards is all about timing.
Exactly when do you start to pitch clients on holiday cards? How do you know when the right time is?
If you say December…. you’d be way too late.
But how do I know what the right time to pitch a client on holiday cards for their annual family card is?
Because I know about a little tool you don’t:
Google Trends.
Truth be told – this little tool will help you even if you’re not a photographer.
Google Trends pulls all the keyword data Google has and plots it over time.
aka gives you the answers to when people are MOST interested in your product or service.
So let’s say you’re a family photographer looking to significantly increase the number of portrait sessions related to holiday card interest.
You would simply:
- Head to www.google.com/trends
- Enter “family photographer” into the search field
- See what months interest peaks in and act from there
So, to save you some time, I did this for you:
You can see that year-over-year, the same peak times happen for “family photographer” – in October and November.
Probably related to families who want to get their holiday cards in shape, right?
So what can you do with this information?
Once you know when interest peaks for *your* specific service, you can adjust marketing offers to this timing.
If you have an existing email list, you could use this info to motivate you to send out a special holiday session offer to your list of prospects.
If you have an existing customer list, you could use this info to motivate you to send out a special holiday card offer created from existing client photos.
But what if you don’t have a list? Or your list isn’t large enough to bring in the business you want or need this holiday season?
Well in that case, you need to get in front of prospects who are interested in booking a family photographer but aren’t yet connected to you.
How can you do this? With a Google Adwords campaign.
Once you know the timing of when interest peaks for your particular service, you can use that information to create a Google Adwords campaign to capture that traffic.
A few items you’ll need to get started:
- A landing page for your offer
- A list of keyword phrases that are laser-targeted for converting
- An understanding of what the average holiday customer might spend with you so you can calculate what your cost-per-click budget should be
The benefit of an Adwords campaign is that you can get start getting calls or emails about your service as soon as you press go on the campaign – meaning you could start getting customers today.
